3 Dangers of Drugstore Bath Bombs

1.  Synthetic Fragrances and Dyes

Many bath bombs found in commercial establishments contain synthetic fragrances and dyes.  Companies are not obligated to tell you just what chemicals are contained in their "scents", so manufacturers could be putting virtually anything in their products.

A central selling point often touted by these companies is the brilliant shades of color formed in your bathwater.  These vivid colors are often created by toxic dyes.  While bathing, these chemicals/dyes can easily be absorbed  into your skin and therefore your bloodstream.  Synthetic dyes are tied to behavioral problems in children, among other issues.  One fun bath is not worth the potential long-term consequences.

2. Talc

Talc is a critical ingredient often used in commercial bath bombs to help soak up excess moisture and creates a firmer product.  Talc has been linked to heightened risk of ovarian cancer, especially if allowed to flow freely around intimate areas (such as taking a bath).  The International Agency for Research on Cancer has fully classified this ingredient as carcinogenic (something with the ability to cause cancer).

3. Parabens

Parabens are preservatives used to help maintain beauty products.  Ironically, they do everything but preserve your endocrine system!  You can find parabens in a lot of cosmetic products and most women's products, which is very concerning considering they are harmful to a woman's unique genetic makeup.  Parabens are known to disrupt hormones and affect the reproductive system.  They have also been linked to breast cancer, leading researchers to conclude they may affect your chances of getting cancer.
